The Home for Aged Women was built in 1857 and served the community until 1977. The Home was the brainchild of 16 “women of good standing in Providence.” These women of means saw a need to assist “unmarried, widowed, and homeless” women in their community. My 4th great grandmother was an “inmate” at the Home for at least 27 years and I would like to find out more about her and the women she lived with for so long. I also want to research the 16 women who built the Home. My plan is to arrange my study both around these women and around Rhode Island, Providence, Fox Point, and the Home for Aged Women.
