Utah is a landlocked U.S. state bordered to its east by Colorado, to its northeast by Wyoming, to its north by Idaho, to its south by Arizona, and to its west by Nevada.

Some of the main industries are mining, tourism and information technology.

The state capital is Salt Lake City and is also the largest city in Utah. It was founded in 1847 by early Morman pioneer settlers, led by Brigham Young, who were seeking to escape persecution they had experienced while living farther east.

In 1869, the US's first transcontinental railroad was completed in Promontory, Utah. Construction on the project began in Sacramento to the west and in Omaha to the east and took seven years to build.
