Study Description

Sewell Houses is an isolated settlement in the township of Pettril Crooks, which is a community spread out along the River Petterill as it flows north towards Carlisle. The nearest settlement is High Hesket and this area falls with the parish of Hesket-in-the-Forest and the Manor of Inglewood Forest.

For many years it was the home of the Sealby family and was passed down through the generations and records relating to it can be found in the Manorial Documents of Inglewood Forest and in numerous wills.
