Study Description

My 2x great grandmother came to Battersea from Dorset where she was brought up in an itinerant Gypsy family. She and my 2x great grandfather, who was not of Gypsy heritage were married in Hampshire in 1874 but were living in Battersea by the time their first child was born in 1875. They had 10 children, 6 of whom were dead by 1911. My 2x great grandmother continued to live in Battersea until her death in 1927. I would like to understand more about the circumstances and conditions of living in and around the Nine Elms district of Battersea from 1875-1939.
