North Walls and Brims

Country Scotland
County Orkney
Study Area North Walls and Brims
About the Study On the map, they may seem very remote communities but their location between Scapa Flow and the Pentland Firth made them a very strategic place for the British Navy in two world wars and earlier, as well as for merchant shipping over many years.

Part of the island parish of Walls and Flotta, North Walls and Brims were home to my father and his direct paternal line from the 1830s until 1955. I am particularly interested in where people came from and where they moved on to. I am working on making less accessible records available through transcriptions.

Population 597 in 1861, decreasing ever since, apart from WW1 and WW2
