August's blog prompt, was interpreted widely.
Sophie Kay's blog post about soundscapes prompted Julie_G to muse on the evocative soundscape of Long Buckley Warf and the emotions it created whilst Janet Barrie linked an album of sounds recorded at or near Springhill. Helen Shields interpreted noise in terms of accent which in Devon has the potential to be quite broad. Julie also gave an evocative piece of writing about life on the canal at Long Buckley Warf in the mid nineteenth century.
Liz G reflected on how her place, Cuckfield in the South Downs, had remained relatively unaffected by changes in adjacent areas as development gathered pace, complete with iguanodon bones, probably the earliest one-place study resident we have had to date. Janet Barrie also reflected on the natural world with thoughts on bat counting and the number of fauna on the periphery of her place. Helen Shields concentrated on the changes in the historical environment over time and Allie Nickell took the historical environment a stage further by looking at street directory transcripts for Sydenham Avenue, Kin Edar. Meanwhile Jane Harris considered how the landscape at Brims facilitated fishing but not farming with suitable coves and poorly fertile land. Allie also looked at how the poor weather affected the entries for the local gardeners' show in 1891 with the quality of the blooms being very poor that year.
