What fun this first month has been! It’s been really interesting working with everyone to set up study pages, where I get the earliest opportunity to hear of your interests and ideas. Now that things are settling down a bit, we should be able to respond quickly to suggestions you have for improving the Society so keep those ideas coming.

One of the best developments in my view is the worldwide reach of our community. I especially like seeing the first studies for a county or country. The Scottish contingent seems particularly busy and hopefully we’ll see entrants from the Emerald Island and New Zealand in the future. If you have any friends studying places in these countries, please be encouraging.

My own study is of a small Devon village (like more than a few other members!) but my family left the village many centuries ago, eventually migrating to Bermuda and then New Jersey. That I should end up living only an hour from ‘my’ Devon village after my ancestors had spent over 300 years in the States is fascinating to me. It certainly leaves me with a healthy interest in emigrants and the communities that they settled in.

Stay in touch and help make us better by sharing your thoughts and contributing to the forum. It was a pleasure to put names to faces at the recent Exodus conference and we hope to meet many more of you in the future.
