Merry Christmas to all one-place studiers

What a year 2013 has been! This time last year, the concept of a Society for One-Place Studies had not even been discussed and now look.... A fully constituted, active society with special deals already available for members and new projects in the offing for the New Year. If you are a Society member and haven't taken a look in the Forum recently, you may not be 'in the know' .... don't miss out. The holiday season is upon us and for many people, it is a time to slow down a little from the usual hectic schedule and spend a few moments (yes, more likely to be hours or days) on their family and/or local history interests.

Why not take the opportunity to start planning your In-Depth report on your place - simple instructions are available in the Members Area. It doesn't have to be hugely in-depth but gives you the opportunity to expand on your study profile and publicise the work you are doing.

Or you could book a place on the Pharos online course on One-Place Studies which begins on 6 January 2014. The 15% discount available to members equates to over half of an annual Society subscription!

If you haven't already planned to attend the Who Do You Think You Are? Live 2014 exhibition at Kensington Olympia, our very own Dr. Janet Few, Vice Chair and Social Networking Coordinator, is lecturing on 'Putting your Ancestors in their Place: sources for reconstructing nineteenth century communities' on Saturday 22 February at 3:15pm. There are many other excellent lectures across the three-day event which this year runs from Thursday 20 - Saturday 22 February. Unfortunately, the cost of having a stand at the event precludes the Society from attending in this way at present but after Janet's talk, Society members will be meeting up and hopefully, we can promote the Society during the weekend individually.

Much to look forward to next year, so here's to a happy, healthy, successful and fruitful 2014!

Kirsty Gray

Merry Christmas
