Since 2001, members of the Woodchurch Ancestry Group have been actively researching the history of the village and the people who lived there. We have organised a number of well-attended exhibitions, including Woodchurch Local History (2006), Woodchurch in 1871 (2008), Leaving Woodchurch (2011), and A Social History of Woodchurch (2014). The last three exhibitions were accompanied by books.
We publish an annual journal, Scuppets & Scutchell, covering a wide variety of topics of local interest, with the eighth issue due to appear in spring 2027. We also give regular talks to the Woodchurch Local History Society.
Our website provides access to a wide range of transcribed historical records, including censuses, vaccination records for Tenterden and West Ashford, overseers’ accounts, monumental inscriptions, and baptisms, marriages and burials for Woodchurch and the surrounding parishes. It also hosts the Mid-Kent Marriage Index, Romney Marsh Baptisms, and the Royal West Kent Battalion Orders for the First World War.
