All About That Place poster

I’m sure that after the success of All About That Place last year, you are as excited as we are that the event is running again this year! The event will run from Friday 27 September to Sunday 6 October, and talks will be recorded so you can catch up later if you’re not around when the talk is released.
If you’re not aware of All About That Place, it’s a free 10-day online international event focusing on place-based research, with several talks each day. There will be an workbook which will guide you through the optional daily tasks. Maybe you’re interested in the history of somewhere your ancestors lived, the place where you live now, or somewhere you feel an affinity for. Perhaps you have a one-place study and you’d like some inspiration from the plethora of speakers?
You can view many of last year’s talks on the Society of Genealogists YouTube channel here ⇒  Society of Genealogists YouTube Channel
The overarching theme this year is “Your Ancestor’s Place in History” and the daily themes this year are:
  • Introduction
  • Health & medicine
  • Military & war
  • Town & country
  • Leisure & entertainment
  • Innovation
  • Politics & rights
  • Collections & archives
  • Tools
  • Conclusion

Would you like to tell us about an aspect of your one-place study? Did you start a one-place study during All About That Place last year? You could tell us how you’re getting on, about your successes and challenges. Your study doesn’t have to be complete - one-place studies are the gift that keeps on giving - there’s always more to study, I imagine very few of us have a completed study! If you’ve discovered some technology which has really helped you analyse or record your study, please share it with us. Where did the people in your place go when they needed medical care? A mini-project is a great way to start a study; have you researched the war memorial in your place? How did people spend their free time?

You have until the end of this month to submit your talk proposal for All About That Place 2024! You could talk about your study, or use one of our monthly prompts for inspiration. The talks should be 10 minutes long, with a minimum of 8 minutes and an absolute maximum of 15 minutes. If you’re new to presenting, it’s a great way to dip your toe in the water!

Submit your talks here ⇒ surveymonkey.com/r/AATP24talks

Even if you don’t want to submit a talk, don’t miss this event! One of the things which really struck me last year was the wonderful sense of being part of a wonderful community of people interested in researching their places of interest. The wide range of fascinating talks will undoubtedly inspire you to read each different aspects of your place/s. It will be just as amazing last year!
