Study Description

I am researching the Barque “Isabel” which was built in 1854 at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada and was commanded by my 2nd great-grandfather Alexander Hector McDonald. Although I may not research every crew member in depth, I am studying Isabel’s owners, James Duncan, Andrew Duncan and James Duncan Mason. I also hope to map as many voyages as I can, depending on available sources. My study ends in early 1862 when the Isabel was lost at sea after leaving New York for Liverpool.

Timeframe

1854-1862

Population

Crew size and number of passengers varied with each voyage. The crew, including the Captain and First Mate, ranged from 15-24 while passengers ranged from 15 to 26.
