Study Description

Hineston, fondly called Historic Hineston, is in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. It appears to be established before 1820 before the ownership dispute between Spain and the United States was settled and certainly while Texas was still a part of Mexico. Note: Mexico was a day’s ride by horseback from Hineston. At first only Indians lived there.

This study will include several of the small towns around Historic Hineston (some no longer exist), schools, industries, and early families. It will include the Westport fight, the Neutral Strip, the Great Depression, roads and much more. In 1991 Don C. Marler did a comprehensive study of the area and published a book “Historic Hineston”. During the last four years, we have been collecting material to update and expand on Mr. Marler’s book. In 2010, a 200 Year Event was celebrated in the community.
