Study Description

My Cleage ancestors were enslaved on the plantation of Samuel Cleage and after his death, his son Alexander’s plantation. A second son David had a plantation nearby. Each plantation had over 100 enslaved people, plus the white family. I have letters, deals of sale, newspaper articles and Civil War pension files of all of the formerly enslaved Cleage men which gives information about their lives and the lives of their neighbors. I’ve studied descendants.
