The Giddings comprise of three villages/hamlets – Great Gidding, Little Gidding and Steeple Gidding all are located close together in the west of Cambridgeshire approximately 10 miles north-west of Huntingdon, adjacent to the county boundary with Northamptonshire. Steeple Gidding is excluded from this study as it is subject to another One Place Study.
A considerable amount of local and family history research was carried out about 25 years ago which resulted in the publication of a book “A Millennium History of Great Gidding” compiled by Patrick Ellis and David Shepherd, further research resulted in two further volumes in 2015.
Much of the original research has been lodged in appropriate archives; recently a small group of Gidding residents have been revisiting the archive material; furthermore, additional material has been deposited in the archives. It is our ambition to make this material available online in a more widely accessible format for further research and recording; building a community that brings together the people, the buildings, the geography and the lives of the past residents.
Until such time as we can provide more access to the information there is a link above to the History section on the community website.
