Study Description

The Cheshire County Training College opened in 1908 and for the first three years was housed at the Mechanics Institute in the centre of Crewe before being moved to a purpose-built campus in 1912. This study will look at the many students, especially the women who attended the college, many of whom went on to become instrumental educators. The history of the college also reflects social history and the changing attitudes towards women, which have thus far been hidden in the college’s sparse archives. It is hoped that many students who attended the college will come forward and share their stories.
