Study Description

The village of Heyhead was in Cheshire until 1931 when it was incorporated into Manchester. As the suburbs of Manchester expanded from the north, and Manchester Airport was built to the south, Heyhead became sandwiched between the two. In the early 1990s the last houses were compulsorily purchased and demolished. Where they stood is now a multi-storey car park for Manchester Airport. My study starts at the time of the English Civil War but mostly covers Heyhead’s flourishing period of about 100 years from the 1860s to the 1960s.
