My study of the little village of Mapleton began with the history of the house I lived in. When I extended my interest to the whole village some wondered why saying it was too small and insignificant for there to be much to find. The opposite has been true and discovering the history of both landscape and people has been fascinating. Who would have thought one little worker’s cottage would open up such a wealth of history.
Timeframe
Started circa 2017 the study is ongoing.
Population
Mapleton’s population has stayed fairly steady for the last two centuries at around 200 people. The village has just one street with 47 houses. A lane leading out of the village over the river Dove has a further house on it.
