Chapel Street, East Stonehouse One-Place Study

This will be a street level study of Chapel Street, in East Stonehouse.

It’s a place that’s no longer on the map. Chapel Street became part of Durnford Street. East Stonehouse is now part of the city of Plymouth. Most of the original street no longer exists.

My initial research shows a Victorian street that was full of shops, pubs, breweries and businesses, as well as being densely populated.

My main aim is to map some of these different types of business and commercial activity, as well as looking at who was living on the street, what kind of work they were involved in, and where they had come from.

The first stage of the study will be to look in depth at the street at the time of the 1901 census.
