Easton is located in the western part of [what was] St George’s parish, Gloucestershire, outside the historic boundary of the city of Bristol. It urbanised rapidly in the 19th century, so study boundaries are fluid, but focusses on Lower and Upper Easton and parts of Whitehall [Stapleton Rd, St Mark’s Rd, Easton Rd]. Census returns contain relatively few street names until late 19th century, so study focussed initially on correlating census returns 1841-1891 against historic maps and other sources to locate census households and understand urban development. Particularly interested in local industries.
I publish some outputs of my research on the Know Your Place Bristol website.
