Study Description

Eccles Old Road is a 2.5 mile section of the road from Manchester to Warrington and Chester. From the late 18th century Manchester’s expanding middle classes and wealthy businessmen settled along the road, building substantial houses and public buildings. This study seeks to uncover Salford’s rich heritage by tracing the people and places that made Eccles Old Road one of Salford’s most significant thoroughfares.
