Study Description 

The purpose of the study is to research the residences and former residents of Chilbolton Avenue, Winchester. The first building on Chilbolton Avenue was the clubhouse of the Royal Winchester Golf Club, built in 1901. The first six houses on Chilbolton Avenue were built between 1909 and 1912. By the late 1960’s, there were 70 houses. Residents have included generals, admirals, judges, doctors, dentists, architects, colonial civil servants, etymologists, poets, golfers and many other interesting and significant people, including a ‘Female Enemy Alien’ refugee.
