The ancient parish of Moulton in Lincolnshire lies to the west of Holbeach, east of Spalding, and just a few miles north of the Cambridgeshire border. The large, rural parish, is some 16 miles in length, and includes the Fenland villages of Moulton Chapel, Moulton Seas End and Moulton Eugate. The parish church, built in the 12th-13th centuries, is dedicated to All Saints and is known locally as ‘The Queen of the Fens’. In 1722, a chapel of ease, octagonal in shape and dedicated to St James, was opened at Moulton Chapel. One of the most striking features of the parish is its windmill, the tallest tower mill in England, and built in 1822. Moulton once boasted a grammar school, and railway station built by the Spalding and Norwich Railway and opened in 1858. To the south of the parish is Crowland with is Benedictine Abbey, and the northern boundary lies in the estuary of the River Welland.
