Study Description

My mother’s maiden name was Pitcher, my maternal grandfather and many Pitcher generations before him all coming from North Norfolk, in the triangle of villages – Ingoldisthorpe, Shernborne and Docking, where there were an abundance of Pitcher families in the 19th/early 20th century, possibly earlier. I am researching my family tree, and am also beginning a One-Name Study for the surname Pitcher. And I thought it would be very interesting to link all three.

Timeframe

Beginning with 18th century onwards but hopefully going back further, (1500’s being ambitious and reading overview of Ingoldisthorpe on Wikipedia).

Population

In the early 1800’s, the population ranged from 200 to 280.

2021 = 526 (Source: UK Office for National Statistics) – Over 50% over the age of 60 for Ingoldisthorpe alone between 300 and 500.
