Study Description 

A One-Place Study into the coal mining industry in the parish of Tranent. Looking at the town of Tranent and other coal mining villages within the parish including Cockenzie, Elphinstone, Fa’side (Fawside/Fauside), Birsley. There were many coal mines within East Lothian and Midlothian, communities that have changed since the collapse of the coal mining industry in the last 40 years. There are stories within these communities that need to be told.
