A-Z Challenge: D is for…

Over the course of April we are exploring the studies registered with the Society for One-Place Studies featuring those that correspond to the relevant letter of the alphabet.

What is a One Place Study? That is a fine question and rather than me explain, I will refer you to the Society’s informative website. If you are interested in joining us and /or registering a study we of course welcome you. You can find the joining information HERE.

Debenham: Debenham is situated in the English county of Suffolk and is hosted by Suzie. The study is registered with the Society for One-Place Studies.

Over the last decade or so Suzie has collated a mass of material relating to the Suffolk town and I am sure she would be delighted to hear from you if you have links to the area. There is a https://www.debenham-ops.org.uk/ exploring the town further.

Dippenhall (Dipnoll): The Dippenham (Dipnoll) study is located in Hampshire in the south east of England and is registered with the Society for One-Place Studies.

Amanda, the study holder, states that the study grew out of her One-Name Study of Dipnall. I am sure that Amanda would be delighted to hear from you should you have an interest in the place or surname she is researching. The map shown here comes from Amanda’s interesting website.

Diptford: Diptford is located in the South Hams region of Devon in the south west of England and the study is registered with the Society for One-Place Studies.

The study is hosted by Gail who has been the Online Parish Clerk (OPC) for many years, and to whom the copyright of this image belongs. She is available to answer questions should you have ancestral links to this rural parish.

Droitwich Spa: This study is situated in Worcestershire and is registered with the Society for One-Place Studies. The study is hosted by Karen.

The town itself has its beginning back in the Roman period and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The image below is from Geograph.org.uk.

Dunster: This lovely village on the north Somerset coastline is registered with the Society for One-Place Studies.
