Nestled in the north-eastern part of Leicestershire in the heart of England lies the small village of Gaddesby. Situated on a south-facing slope of sandy clay supported on a bedrock of Lias deposit, the village was home to my Smith ancestors, who lived and toiled within its community for over two centuries, and the place where I spent my formative years. Having researched the village’s history and people for several years, with a long-standing ambition to publish a book on the subject, I am inspired to author this one-place study for Gaddesby. However, my primary focus remains the completion of my book, and as a result, documenting this study will progress somewhat slowly until that project is finalised.
