In the September edition of the Genealogy Gazette, the Society of Genealogists (SoG) announced that All About That Place would not take place in its usual format this year. Instead, with support from ourselves, Project Kin and the British Association for Local History, a ‘Mini-AATP’ would take place from 24 September to 3 October 2025. Five days in, here’s an update on what this event has involved so far.
With no new AATP videos being added to the SoG’s YouTube channel, the emphasis of this scaled down event has been on highlighting some of the most popular content from previous years, following the daily themes of 2024’s All About That Place. SoG has been doing this via its social media accounts, including its Facebook page and at Bluesky Social.
Project Kin joined in with the AATP fun last year by co-sponsoring a Pacific Edition of the event, focusing on the Americas and the Pacific region. For this year’s Mini-AATP, most of the Project Kin speakers from 2024 have returned to chat via Substack Live. The full programme, with links to recordings of that chats that have taken place so far, can be found on Project Kin’s ‘Mini’ #AATP25 page.
The Society for One-Place Studies has also been helping to showcase some of the terrific talks from previous AATP events, via our social media platforms. In addition, we set ourselves a challenge – could we, at short notice, come up with a series of short presentations tying in with AATP’s daily themes, and share them via our YouTube channel?
The answer, as of AATP Day 5 (thanks to superb support from our members) is: So far, so good! We have released one video each day plus an extra, bonus video on Day 2. In so doing we have not only supported #AATP25, we have also added some much-needed new content to the library of videos available for viewing by the public.
